Much to the chagrin of driving enthusiasts, BMW replaced the conventional throttle cable in 2001 in favor of an ECM (Electronic Control Module). The ECM translates how hard the pedal is pushed into electronic signals signifying how much power to provide. This Drive-by-Wire system, or ETC (Electronic Throttle Control), is the source of an unfortunate delayed response and overall subdued acceleration. Not only can it just be simply annoying when you want power, it can also create problems in certain situations such as uphill starts, quick gear changes, and overtaking.

Stage 1 is a small increase in throttle response, and Stage 2 is a more aggressive throttle response. This allows you to fine tune the throttle response to your own personal taste, and modes can be easily switched between drivers.

1. Remove the throttle pedal assembly (a 1-minute job with a standard screwdriver)
2. Unclip the wire harness from the pedal
3. Install the Sprint Booster between the harness and the pedal assembly
4. Reinstall
