This expansion tank is found on 323i, 323Ci, 323iT, 325i, 325xi, 325Ci, 325iT, 325xiT, 328i, 328Ci, 330i, 330xi, 330Ci and 330i/Ci ZHP models, as offered in the 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 model years. This is also found on all 2001-2006 X5 3.0 liter as well as all 2004-2010 model (first generation) BMW X3 (E83 chassis) including X3 2.5i, X3 3.0i and X3 3.0si.
The recommended replacement interval on the coolant expansion tank on the E46/E53/E83 is 100,000 miles. We feel if you have over 100k miles on your coolant expansion tank, you are on very borrowed time - with a failure likely eminent. When the expansion tank fails, it will crack, leak coolant, cause overheating, and leave you stranded on the side of the road. Don't let this happen to your E46!
