This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 11537601158 (11 53 7 601 158) and is described as Thermostat for E82/E88 1 Series, E9X 3 Series, E84 X1 35i, E70 X5 35i, E71 X6 35i with N55 Engine found in many 2011 and newer BMWs. 

Starting in 2011, BMW transitioned away from the twin-turbo engine on most "35i" model BMWs in favor of the newer N55 twin-scroll single turbo (dubbed "TwinPower Turbo"). 

This thermostat was used on all 2011 335i and 335xi sedan (E90 with N55), 2011-2013 335i and 335xi coupe/convertble (E92/E93 with N55), 2011-2013 135i and 135is (E82/E88 N55), 2014-2016 X1 35i (E84), 2011-2013 X5 35i xDrive (E70), and 2011-2013 X6 35i xDrive (E71). 

These cars use an electronic thermostat that is prone to failure. When this happens, the engine control computer will usually throw warnings, and it's time for a replacement. This OEM replacement is made by an original supplier to BMW, and is made to exacting specifications for perfect operation. This thermostat can get your N55 powered E9X, E82, X84, E70 or E71 back to trouble-free running, and is a value at much less than what the same part sells for at your local BMW dealer. We recommend replacing this thermostat at the same time as the electric water pump, to both save labor time and make your water pump overhaul as thorough as possible. 

NOT for cars before the 2011 model year. 
NOT for cars with the N54 twin turbo engine. 
NOT for "F" chassis BMWs.
