Cam Position Sensor, URO - E39 540i, E38 740i, E31 840ci (M62)

The engine computer takes the camshaft position from this sensor to assist in setting timing and even when starting the engine. A bad cam position sensor will lead to hard starting and reduced power as the engine computer reverts to 'safe mode' maps. There will also be a fault code and check engine light for camshaft reference sensor.

This part is manufactured by an aftermarket supplier of European auto parts, including many electrical components. While not carrying OEM status, this part follows the design of the original very closely and uses similar materials. An aftermarket part may even have the same TUV approval as its OEM counterpart. The brand may even be OEM to another manufacturer besides BMW. This aftermarket brand has a two year warranty - the same as Genuine BMW and OEM brands.
