With individual throttle bodies, their position is absolutely critical for peak engine performance. The ECU relies on sensors to determine which fuel, ignition, and torque maps to use. If the ECU is not seeing good data, or the throttles are out of position, it will restrict performance. The ECU will not deliver full power if it doesn't see full throttle, right?

Each bank of cylinders has its own throttle position sensor, or throttle position switch (TPS). On the S54 inline-6 there is a sensor on cylinder #1 (bank 1) and cylinder #6 (bank 2). On the S62 V8 the sensors are located at the rear of each bank. These are a pretty common failure item, resulting in sluggish performance, loss of torque, and jerkiness in the throttle (especially during on/off action). There should also be a check engine light and fault code for throttle actuation. This is an OEM sensor, sold individually. Note: throttle adaptation and position will need to be reset after installing new sensors.
