This aluminum chargepipe and BOV for the 135i/1M/335i N54 replaces the weak stock system for improved reliability and consistency with higher boost levels.
The stock plastic intake chargepipe is one of the weakest points on the N54 twin-turbo engine in the E82 135i and E90/E92/E93 335i models. Even on stock engines the plastic will crack and the c-clip becomes weak and loses its connection. It's one of the first places for 135i/335i upgrades because even modest tuning requires a well-planned and reliable system.
In addition to the plastic charge pipe, the stock diverter valves are also a weak point. They are designed as an outlet for pressurized air to exit when the throttle closes, just like a blow-off valve but instead of venting to the atmosphere they divert the boosted air back into the turbo. But weak plastic is again the cause of failure as the connection to the chargepipe becomes brittle and cracks. The valve internals themselves are also took weak, especially with higher boost. Both failures will lead to a boost leak that reduces power.
