Eibach 2.25" Coil Over Tender Spring

Tender springs, also known as Helper springs, are fitted to a coil over to either correct the spring travel (helper) or create a progressive spring rate (tender). Tender springs are very common on front BMW coil overs to correct the ride height and account for the shorter front springs.

As a Helper spring, the spring becomes fully compressed into a solid block at the normal ride height and is only there to take up space. This is to optimize the travel of the main spring and shock damper and also used during setup and corner balancing to achieve the desired ride height. They also keep the main spring from becoming loose during shock extension, such as when lifting a wheel.

In a Tender spring scenario, the spring rate is stiffer than a Helper spring and the spring does not become fully compressed until cornering at high speeds or rapid weight transfers. This becomes a soft intermediary spring that absorbs small bumps and works during low speed cornering, which is the benefit of progressive springs. It will become compressed during hard cornering or weight transfers and the stiffer main spring will take over. Many street coil overs will use a soft tender spring to give a more comfortable ride.
