A coil pack boots (or spark plug boot) is made of rubber and lives in a high-heat environment that can reduce their life as the rubber ages and cracks. These spark plug boots need to be in full working order in order for your BMW ignition system to function properly. This is why we recommend replacing your coil pack boots as preventative measure, or if there are any signs of cracking or aging. The time to change them is when you are installing spark plugs or new ignition coil packs, as you will have them out and in your hands anyways.
This particular spark plug / coil pack boot is made for some of the OBDII (OBD2) engines, such as the M52, M52TU, M54, M62, S62 and M73 engines (6, 8 and 12 cylinder) from 1996 and stretching into about 2006 or so. See the list of BMW models below for a list of models.
