The BimmerWorld View: We worked closely with OPTIMA to develop and test the ORANGETOP™ Lithium battery line for over two years, initially through the Powersport applications used in some of our racing vehicles, now to the launch of this QH6 automotive application. Lithium ion batteries are cheap and abundant in the market with new brands cycling in and out regularly, but the OPTIMA QH6 isn't a generic or standard Lithium Ion Battery; It's a true premium Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) battery with higher thermal and structural stability, made by an established Tier 1 industry supplier that meets and exceeds numerous global safety standards. No mounting kit required on most models!         
This new H6 direct-fit battery does not require a mount kit for cars that came with an H6 size. On most BMWs, you can also use this battery to replace the larger H7 size, thanks to an extra hole that's included in the stock mounting receiver on most models. On the newer cars, which use an H8 size battery (2019+, generally), we offer a “Minus 1” bracket, which allows this H6 battery to be used in H7 and H8 applications. 45AH is not the same as 45AH     
If you're into battery or electrical tech, you might be wondering: How can a battery rated at only 45AH replace a battery of 60, 70, or 80+ AH rating? The answer lies in the power and science of Lithium. Due to it's much greater stability, a Lithium battery can delivery higher, more consistent voltage across the full 45 amp hours of charge, while a lead acid / AGM battery typically sees the voltage drop as it is discharged, particularly in the lower half of its capacity. A non-lithium battery rated at 70AH is going to essentially fall flat well before it puts out 70AH of energy. With an OPTIMA Lithium battery, the voltage remains more stable, even when discharging down below 50% capacity. Don't be deceived by the lower 45AH rating. In terms of usable amperage, a Lithium is closer to double the AH of its lead acid equivalent. Higher and more stable power means more consistent power and performance from your car (and less of those odd faults that seem to manifest in a BMW as a typical lead-acid battery gets long in the tooth).

Extra Strong Cranking Power – Down to -20 degrees F! 
One of the advantages of Lithium batteries is its strength in delivering a BURST of power. The QH6 is rated at 880 CCA, which means it can deliver 880 amps of cranking power at 0 degrees F (the point where many batteries actually struggle to deliver cranking power). You would need a much bigger and heavier lead-acid battery to deliver nearly 900 amps of starting power, so achieving 880 CCA at only 20.8 lbs is a breakthrough in the automotive world. Where the LiFePO4 battery outshines the standard Lithium Ion is prolonged engine cranking. While not the norm for most BMWs, extended cranking of a standard Li-Ion battery can actually cause the internal electronics to overheat and fail. This is not the case with the QH6's Lithium Iron Phosphate design and superior components. This battery can crank and crank, as needed, without BMS or other internal damage seen on several Li-Ion competitors with higher CCA claims. And the QH6 can crank confidently down to -20F (-29C), something competing Lithium options can't match.

Save 34 to 50 lbs of Weight    
If you're converting from a similarly sized Lead/AGM battery, this battery will save 34 lbs or more. Many of the stock batteries found in BMWs can weigh up to 70 lbs. (Wow!) In our Project G87 M2 (2023+), we saved over 40 lbs!

The PERFECT replacement to Failing Factory Lithium Ion Batteries     
The latest generations of BMW “M” cars, specifically the F8X (M2, M3, M4) and G8X chassis (M3 & M4), came with Li-Ion technology batteries from the factory for added weight savings. Unfortunately these batteries still fail with age, and the replacement cost is upwards of $2,000 each. Aftermarket Li-Ion solutions are over $1,300, and lack the safety and technology of the OPTIMA ORANGETOP. The QH6 uses LiFePO4 (Lithium Iron Phosphate) technology, which is well known to be much more stable, safer, and longer lasting the Li Ion batteries. For these and other reasons, the QH6 makes an excellent (and lower cost) replacement for an old, failing Factory BMW Li-Ion battery. **Please note that if you are replacing a factory Li-Ion battery, you will need the negative battery cable for IBS (intelligent battery sensor), as the factory BMW Li-Ion batteries include a port for them that the QH6 (or any aftermarket Lithium battery) does not have -- but can easily be adapted. OPTIMA CPR™ - The QH6 comes with a built-in jump-start that automatically disconnects your battery before it's drained, and reserves enough power to start your vehicle. Should a slow drain reduce your state of charge, the Battery Management System will AUTOMATICALLY disconnect power to the car at 35% capacity, and hold that remaining 35% as a built-in jump starter. Activating the CPR mode can be down by pressing the CPR button on the battery or by using the Bluetooth controls from your iOS or Android device (without ever touching the battery).

Fitment Notes:       
- A lithium charger, or lithium charging algorithm, must be used for charging lithium batteries. We recommend an OPTIMA brand charger/maintainer for routine maintenance and periodic charging. (See our Related Items, below).      
- Normally, no charging system or other modifications are required for use in cars and trucks. On newer vehicles with an IBS, we recommend coding your car for the smallest support AH (amp hour) rating for best results.

- When using this Lithium battery to replace a factory BMW lithium Ion battery (such as those found on BMW F8X and G8X M2 / M3 / M4 models), an IBS adapter is required. The IBS is the Intelligent Battery Sensor, which normally plugs directly into the factory BMW lithium battery, and will need this special IBS adapter to plug into the OPTIMA QH6. We've done this on our own project M2 / M3 / M4 models, and it's simple.  
- For cars that came with batteries larger than an H8 / Group 49 sized battery, we don't recommend this battery. Newer BMW 5/6/7/8 series models as well as X5/X6/X7 use much larger batteries such as the H9 or H11 (or even two batteries in parallel), making the QH6 not a suitable replacement.

5 Year Warranty    
With batteries as durable as an OPTIMA, you might wonder why they offer warranties in the first place. You could say they're going the extra mile. This ORANGETOP battery is backed by a 5-Year Free Replacement warranty. Should your QH6 battery fail or become unusable due to any manufacturing or material defect, OPTIMA offers a free replacement program for 60 months from purchase. Lots of batteries have 2, 3, 4, and even 5 year warranties, but the OPTIMA QH6 5 Year Warranty is a full free replacement warranty, not the common prorated version that leaves you spending even more money to get on the road again. 

Required Coding:     
Please note that on newer BMWs (2006+) you should perform a BMW registration and coding procedure any time the battery is replaced. Registering the battery to the car ensures best performance and life. We also recommend coding your BMW to the lowest amp hour (AH) rating available in your settings. For example, if your BMW has options for 60, 70, and 80 AH settings, you should select the 60AH setting. This can be done using a Foxwell NT530, Foxwell i53BT, or other compatible coding and diag tool.      

This battery is smaller in size than my stock battery. Is that OK? How does it mount?      
While this battery may be shorter in length than your original BMW battery, installation should be essentially the same. The powerful internals and high-tech design make for a much higher capacity and output than the batteries size might suggest. Where some stock BMW batteries may measure 1" to 2" longer / larger (H7 DIN size, one size larger/longer than this H6 size), they have an alternate mounting hole for the securing bracket that allows this size to be properly secured. On 2019+ models, you will likely need our “DIN Minus One” adapter to secure this H6 sized battery, as these are typically H8 size batteries (2 sizes larger, or 2 DIN sizes longer). If your BMW has any large power draw accessories (such as aftermarket stereo equipment, amps, etc) we would generally steer you away from a smaller battery. This battery is intended mainly for weight savings and a lower cost alternative to Original BMW Lithium Ion batteries, making it ideal for track and racing, or street cars going for weight savings and maximum horsepower-to-weight ratio. It's not recommended for the larger BMW models (5/6/7/8 series, X5/X6/X7) which use much larger batteries and aren't suited for a downsize in size or capacity. 

What if I am replacing a factory BMW Lithium Ion Battery?     
The QH6 works GREAT for this! And can save you many hundreds of dollars. Just note that you will need the adapter cable for the IBS (intelligent battery sensor). The factory BMW Li-Ion batteries included a small plug/port for IBS that the QH6 (or any aftermarket Lithium battery) does not, Fortunately this is easily solved by using a negative battery cable with with an IBS interface included. For example, this cable is for the F22 and F3X 3 & 4 Series (and others) and work for installing the QH6. This isn't necessary on BMWs that had AGM/lead batteries, as they already have provisions for IBS. Need Help? Call or chat with our experts, and we can assist with the correct IBS adapter.
