This is the OEM NGK spark plug used in the N20 and N26 turbocharged four-cylinder engines. It's also used as an upgrade in highly modified N54 engines. NGK is an original supplier to BMW for spark plugs and other ignition components and this plug meets all of the original specs. Having the correct plugs in your car ensures optimal performance and efficiency from your engine. The OEM plugs meet the design requirements set by BMW for a wide range of operating conditions and fuel mixtures. It's the best all-around plug you can buy.

Just like ignition coils, spark plugs are key to the performance and efficiency of your BMW engine. A bad plug(s) will harm performance and fuel mileage and affect drivability and engine smoothness. Unburnt fuel in the exhaust will shorten the lifespan of oxygen sensors and catalytic converters. Spark plugs wear out over a long time, making losses in performance less obvious. While BMW may recommend "lifetime" 100,000 mile replacement intervals, we generally recommend 50-60,000 mile replacements.

This plug can be used in N54 engines as an upgrade. It's 2 steps colder on the heat range, which lowers combustion chamber temperatures and reduces misfires and knocking (pre-detonation). This colder plug should only be used on very highly modified N54 engines, such as with upgraded turbos or water/meth injection. For FBO N54 applications, we recommend first using the NGK ILZKBR7B8DG plugs first (1 step colder). When used on the N54 these plugs must be gapped precisely to 0.020" (0.508mm) using a spark plug gap tool! Also on N54 these plugs will need replacing much sooner than OEM plugs.
