The BimmerWorld View - Now on Version 3 with a ton of new features! AiM continues to lead the pack with video and data integration that is unbeatable. Why go on track with a generic action-camera? SmartyCam3 has been designed for motorsports with a single purpose: to provide great videos that include all the technical information that will help you improve your performance. The picture quality is excellent, the overlays are very configurable, and one of the biggest features for us is that the camera starts and stops automatically, and it even powers on by itself - no more trying to remember if the camera is running while strapped in on grid, so no more missed footage!
The AiM SmartyCam 3 Sport bridges the gap between high-resolution video and on-screen data in one revolutionary package designed specifically for motorsports. From its conception, the goal with SmartyCam was to create a truly visual data tool that would provide stunning video quality with integrated on-screen feedback to ultimately make you go faster on the racetrack. Racing deserves a better video and data solution, and SmartyCam is the answer.
SmartyCam 3 Sport New Features: 1920 x 1080 resolution at 30 FPS More custom configurations Additional improvements in RaceStudio 3 and SmartyCam Analysis 3 Supports up to 2TB MicroSD card Automatic track selection Sapphire frontal glass
The “3” is the third generation of cameras from AiM and an evolution of the wildly popular and useful Smartycam line. The 3 advances technology further with amazing video quality and new data overlays. These entry-level cameras are now split into a Sport and Corsa products. Full spec comparison is below but there are two major differences: frame rate (30 vs 60 FPS) and data logging. The Sport is the entry-level motorsport camera coming in cheaper than its predecessor and meeting the needs for people who want video but already have a data logger wired up.
If you want to add video to your existing data system - or are replacing an older action cam - the Sport will suit your needs well. The Sport lacks internal data logging which the Corsa camera has but this makes it perfect to avoid redundant data loggers. The Sport does give up some frame rate performance but the quality and technology is still an upgrade over previous AiM motorsport cameras - and at a cheaper price too!
Video Quality & Technology A quantum leap in video, SmartyCam is the first to offer a global shutter CMOS imager for motorsport applications. Traditional cameras use a rolling shutter to capture video, which causes wave and vibrations in the output. A global shutter exposes the entire image simultaneously, not one line at a time. This provides a clear picture and brilliantly sharp race footage.
AiM came up with an exclusive seven-element optics package so that your race footage, day or night, looks brighter and sharper than ever before. To be sure your video plays back exactly the way you saw it on track, a hybrid infrared filter keeps clarity-robbing light out for more accurate, uniform colors.
SmartyCam has a built-in three-axis accelerometer to instantly and automatically bring the system to life, tells it when to start and stop, and even when to power down to conserve battery life*. The internal memory even has tracks saved so it will automatically recognize the track you're on.
AiM came up with pioneering video and data stream management firmware. Through better programming, they were able to make files smaller. Generic HD cameras are focused on the highest pixels number, resulting in files that are far too large and take up too much memory. SmartyCam 3 videos have the same quality as other FHD cameras but their files are smaller because the H.264 compression system parameters have been optimized to perfectly balance video quality and file size.
The Sport has an internal mic that is ready to use or configure.
Data While the Sport does not haven internal datalogging function like the Corsa camera, the video can still be exported and laid over data from your existing logger, such as a AiM dash or SOLO DL laptimer. The back of the Sport camera has a 5-pin Binder connection to plug into an AiM data hub. From there the data possibilities are endless.
The data output onscreen can be configured with AiM's own camera software. Choose as much or as little data to display and in a layout of your preference. Add logos, a track map, or other icons. It's fully customizable for your needs.
AiM software is not just for managing your video files. Included with your camera is their awesome and powerful RaceStudio software that interprets your data and displays it visually for analysis. Overlay lap data and align with throttle, brake, power, or any other parameter you have configured. Sync the data with your video for total immersion in your performance.
What's in the box: Sport 3 camera, 2m AiM patch cable**, battery charger cable
Suggested accessories: MicroSD card (up to 2TB), GPS antenna module, data hub, roll bar or suction cup mount
* the internal battery is really just for temporary use while the main 12v power is off. A hardwired power supply through the Binder connector is basically required. ** Our default preference is a 2 meter cable, however 4 meter is also available.
