This expansion tank can be used on all 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006 model year M3, including E46 M3 Coupe and E46 M3 Convertible in both manual and SMG-III sequential transmission options. 

If your E46 M3 expansion tank hasn't let you down yet, watch out! These plastic reservoirs are known for getting brittle with age, developing cracks in the plastic, and eventually leaking / rapturing. This will leave your S54 powered M3 stranded on the side of the road. 

We recommend this coolant expansion tank gets replaced at the same time as either the radiator or water pump, if possible. This is the original BMW / stock expansion tank, which comes with the fittings and overflow / vent tube, as pictured. 

This tank replaces the older / former BMW part number 17112228944 (17-11-2-228-944). BMW had a design improvement and replaced the older part number with this updated unit, which is BMW part number 17112283344 (17-11-2-283-344). Buying this expansion tank ensures you get the newest design with the latest improvements over the original number.
