The E46 radio is very limited in its abilities, compared to the digital music sources that have emerged since BMW made the E46 3 series. Fortunately for E46's starting in 2003, BMW added the ability to plug an auxiliary music source in by a standard 3.5mm (1/8" headphone jack.) This jack allows you to plug in any music you want, perhaps from a handheld or portable music device, or smart phone. 

This kit works for 2003-2005 3 Series sedans WITHOUT Navigation and 2003-2006 3 Series Coupe/Convertible WITHOUT Navigation.
