The N54 ECU (or DME, as its known in Germany) can often fail. The fix is a new ECU and dealer programming, which can be quite pricey. There are many coding experts who are willing to do this work for much less than the dealer, as long as you have a good ECU/DME to program. Why pay dealer prices if you don't have to? 

This is a brand new replacement engine control module (MSD81) for the N54 powered twin-turbo BMWs. You can take this new unit and have it coded/programmed at a shop (or dealer) of your choice, but at a lower price than what you'll find at your local BMW dealer.
