Rear Trunk Hatch Shock (Electric Spindle Drive), OEM - F07 535i/550i GT

This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 51247200543 (51 24 7 200 543) and is described as a rear left or right trunk spindle drive that raises and lowers the automatic trunklid on F07 535i GT and 550i GT models with the automatic trunk opening option (Option Code S316A). Note: this only fits the GT (Gran Turismo) hatchback models, not the regular sedan. There's a number of reasons for BMW trunk malfunctions and the spindle drive is one of the top causes for a open or close failure.

The rear trunk strut includes the main spindle drive gear mechanism that lifts and lowers the trunklid as well as supports it when open. If your BMW trunk no longer opens or closes, moves slowly, or makes grinding or other odd noises, the spindle drive could be one culprit.

This is for the Right side (passenger's side) on US model BMW F07 GT. Installation is simple as it uses the familiar ball stud used with any other BMW hood or trunk strut. For replacement, the trunk must be in the fully open position. No programming or electronic syncing should be required - it should be near full extension to install and the closed setting is determined by a microswitch on the body.

This is an OEM trunk strut manufactured by TRW - an original supplier to BMW for this part, as well as many other components and systems. As the OEM it meets all of BMW's original design, fitment, and performance requirements and is TUV approved. OEM parts are the best alternative to more expensive Original BMW parts because they are virtually identical without the inflated price tag. This part has a two year warranty.
