This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 65221375569 (65 22 1 375 569) and is described as the antenna mast for several classic BMW chassis, including some E12, E21, E23, E24, E28 and E30 models. This antenna mast measures 900mm in length (3.5.4 inches) and is the style with teeth along one edge (that engage with the gears of the antenna motor, sold separately).

If your classic model BMW (E12, E23, E24, E28, or E30) has this telescoping chrome antenna aerial mast, and the drive motor unit is still functioning, you may be able to simply replace the mast with this affordable aftermarket replacement mast. 

What happens on these antennas on these older BMWs with power antenna is either the plastic teeth (gears, really) strip from the mast, rendering the antenna unable to go up or unable to go down, or the mast itself gets bent or broken off completely. If your electric drive motor is still working, and you can extract the broken antenna mast successfully, this new unit may be able to be inserted and engaged into the working power antenna drive motor unit. Please be sure to check your existing antenna unit to make sure this is the case before ordering. This may just be the fix you were looking for!
