This sticker is applied to the outside of the brake caliper body to quickly gauge maximum temperature reached before application. Brake pads are intended to work within a specific range. Too low and they don't produce enough friction and you may have too much brake cooling. Too high and they pads may become ineffective and you could be reaching the boiling point of your brake fluid. Temp range covers 250-536°F (121-280°C).
Orange is the default, un-used temp. Black is the current maximum temp. The temp strip does not reset to default but will record a higher temp if exposed. The black indicator is the last maximum temp reached, however, the indicated temperature may be "the result of heat soak from the discs and pads after the car has stopped and is typically 30-40ºC (86- 104ºF) higher than on-track temperature" (quote from Alcon). New strips may be required depending on your testing or goals.
Sold per strip.
