December 2025 Update: the sources for the Ate version of this pad have dried up. This was a unique pad offering that not all retailers were aware of (we're special). The Genuine BMW pads are still available and are 1:1 match for these Ate OEM pads. Other aftermarket pads come close in terms of friction coefficient and performance. See our Related Items below. We'll still watch out for these Ate OEM pads and update our page if they become available again.
This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 34212284989 (34-21-2-284-989) and is described as Ate Rear Brake Pads for the 2015+ F80 M3 and F82 M4 as well as the 2016-2018 BMW M2 (not Competition). And also used as the standard rear brake pad in the M235i/M240i Racing model.
The original factory brake pad set is actually a very aggressive friction compound. This was done on M models to give them a "sporty" feel and better capability for aggressive use (even some track use). If you want the original braking feel and performance, this pad is the right choice for you. If you ever felt the stock brakes were too "grabby" or sharp, then check out our listing for the "OEM" brake pad which are slightly less aggressive.
If you are looking to replace your brake pads on your M2, M3 or M4 (with the standard steel brakes) and aren't looking for improved performance, you might consider sticking with the stock pads. We carry lots of upgrade brake pads including pads to improve performance on the track, but understand you may just want to keep it simple and stay stock as well. If that's the case, these are the original spec rear brake pads to do the job.
