This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 34356799329 (34-35-6-799-329) and is described as Brake Pad Wear Sensor, Front, for the BMW i3 electric vehicle, as offered in model years 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, and 2020. This includes the different EV battery model sizes (60Ah, 94Ah, 120Ah) both with and without the REx / range extender feature.

If your brake lining error light has come on the dash of your BMW i3, there's a good chance your front brake pads have worn down enough to trip the brake sensor wire. On the BMW i3, the brake sensor wire is essentially a loop of wire at the base of the front brake pad, which once the brake pad wears down, this lip of wire wears through, severing the wiring and the brake error circuit, telling the i3's computer that your brake pads are now worn to the minimum and its time to replace them.

In most cases, you will replace your i3 front brake pads (and rotors, optionally, if needed), and to make the brake error light go away you replace this simple wire. The car will see the circuit is complete again (with an unbroken sensor wire) and your i3 brake pad wear warning will go away until the next time.

There is only one of these sensors on the front left of the car (front driver's side, on US left hand drive models). You should only need to buy one as the front right side does not have a sensor, only the front left.
