This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 11537642854 (11 53 7 642 854) and is described as the Heat Management Module for the B58 engine used in 2017-2021 F22/F23 M240i, 2016-2018 F30 340i, 2017-2019 F34 340i GT, 2017-2020 F32/F33 440i, and 2017-2020 F36 440i Gran Coupe. It's also used on 2017-2019 G30 540i, 2016-2019 G12 740i, 2018-2019 G01 X3 M40i, and 2019 G02 X4 M40i models. These cars use the B58A engine. The Heat Management Module takes the place of a traditional thermostat.

Your engine's thermostat regulates coolant flow and temperature in the cooling system. When open it allows hot coolant to flow into the radiator to be cooled. When closed the coolant circulates through the engine, where it stays warm. A failed thermostat will either be open or closed with the engine running too cold (poor fuel economy and performance) or too hot (overheating). It can also impact your cabin heating/cooling since that system is drawn from your heater core.
