This electric aux fan is specific to the S85 V10 "M" engine, and is a critical component to the cooling system. The car uses this electric fan to control temperatures while idling and sitting. A sign of trouble would be increased engine temps while sitting in traffic or while idling and parked. This can lead to overheating and further damage, which is why it is imperative to replace a failed electric cooling fan immediately on the E60 M5 or E63/E64 M6 models.
