This water pump has an upgraded metal impeller for better durability and long-term engine-cooling insurance. The water pump is a crucial part of your S54 engine's cooling system and shouldn't be ignored during routine cooling system maintenance. Like any vehicle, the water pump is a wear and tear item, although much less than those used in the previous E36 generation. Check for play in the water pump shaft which indicates the bearings are worn. The metal impeller is a highly durable alternative over the stock composite impeller. This S54 water pump includes the required gasket and is an exact fit for worry-free installation. This water pump can be used on any 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and 2006 model M3, coupe or convertible. 

Fitment note: while similar engines, the E46 M3 water pump does NOT fit Z3 or Z4 M cars (different hose routing).
