This Water Pump has an upgraded metal impeller for better durability and long-term engine-cooling insurance. The water pump is a crucial part of your cooling system and shouldn't be ignored during routine cooling system maintenance. This pump was used on many BMW models starting around 1999, including 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2005 models, as well as some 2006 models. Inspect your current water pump for evidence of leakage or coolant weeping from either the gasket or shaft. Replace your old or failing pumping preventatively with this cost-effective upgraded version. This water pump includes the required gasket and is an exact fit for worry-free installation. 

BimmerWord View: We replace any M52tu and M54 engine pumps that originally came with plastic impellers with aftermarket replacements with metal impellers.  The original pump is often a failure item and we've found these metal versions are proven to have a longer life. 

Not for 5 series before the 1999 model year. Prior to 1999, the 5 series used an older generation engine and therefore uses the earlier style water pump. On the 5 series, this pump is only for the 1999-2000 528i, 2001-2003 525i (E39), 2001-2003 530i (E39), 2004-2005 525i (E60), and 2004-2005 530i (E60). 

Not for Z3 before the 1999 model year. The Z3 also got the newer "M52TU" technical update engine starting in 1999. Be sure your Z3 is not before 1999 before buying this waterpump. This mainly applies to the Z3 2.8, as the later 2001-2002 model Z3 2.5 and Z3 3.0 definitely use this pump (M54 engines).
