The Clutch Masters FX200 performance clutch & flywheel kit for 3/2003-2006 E46 330i 6-speed and 2004-2005 E60 525i/530i uses a full-face Kevlar disc that works better under harsh conditions than organic and lasts 2-3 times longer. Kevlar's best attribute is its low wear to the clutch material and to related components (flywheel and pressure plate). Clutch Master's advanced pressure plate gives up to 70% more holding capacity with only a small increase in pedal pressure over stock. Clutch Masters is the most advanced BMW clutch upgrade on the market - offering more clutch options and design innovation than any other brand. This kit part number also includes an steel lightweight flywheel and rigid-hub dampened clutch disc.
The pressure plate in the FX200 is the key to its impressive performance. Clutch Masters is the only US performance clutch brand to make their own pressure plates in-house (most other companies use a re-branded Sachs part). Not only does this let them control quality to a very high degree but they are able to design a new pressure plate from the ground up. Clutch Masters re-engineered pressure plate design to introduce their Hi-LeverageTM pressure plate with less pedal effort than other performance clutches. By moving the spring plate closer to the fulcrum point, less force is required to push on the diaphragm springs. Pressure plates are also over-built with extra retention straps and heavy-duty rivets - two of the common failure points on stock clutches.
The FX200 is best used on mildly-tuned naturally aspirated E46 325i/330i, E60 525i/530i models. It works best in a sport street, autocross, or light track environment where you want extra grip and low wear. Kevlar is a material that works great on the track but takes a little extra concentration during take-off and launches (it's not as smooth as organic). A 500 mile break-in is required and essential for smooth engagement. For advanced serious autocross or dedicated track days, the FX250 or FX350 would be a better choice. The flywheel is a Single-Mass design and will have some additional noise and vibration than a stock Dual-Mass flywheel.
