The Getrag / BMW 7-speed DCT is an amazing transmission. But on cars that see rigorous track use and/or big power gains, the torque capacity of the stock DCT clutches becomes a limiting factor. The factory DCT clutch pack has both a limit on the amount of power it can grab and hold, as well as a consumable lifespan. When pushed beyond stock power levels (or flogged on track), this leads to increased wear, unintended slipping during shifts, shifting problems, and complete DCT clutch failure. Worse, if you don't improve the DCT clutch, it's bound to happen again.

The 16-plate clutch upgrade from SSP supports cars seeing lots of track time, as well as big power mods. This setup has been tested to 900+ ft/lbs, while retaining the stock/OEM DCT clutch basket. The clutch discs themselves have been engineered for a smooth, stock-like engagement*, so that drivability is not sacrificed. Once installed, the SSP clutch stack also needs a minimal amount of break-in time, reducing downtime after the work is performed. The transmission will need to go through a relearning procedure, which requires advanced diagnostic and service software, and be ready for hard use after a very short amount of break in time. * - all driving should be done in Manual modes as the Auto modes do not generate enough pressure for proper engagement.

BMW DCT Applications:
The GS7D36SG DCT transmission is found in MANY of the recent BMW M models, starting with the E9X M3 DCT, E9X 335i DCT, and E82 135i DCT, and continuing on to the F10 M5, F06/12/F13 M6 DCT, F80 M3 DCT, F82 M4 DCT, F87 and M2 DCT (including M2 Competition). The SSP SPEC-R clutch disc package is compatible with all these models, spanning model years 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, and 2021.

What's Included:
Package includes 16 total DCT clutch friction discs - 8 large heavy-duty friction discs, 8 small heavy-duty friction discs, as well as heavy duty steel plates to separate them (7 large, 7 small steel discs).

The BimmerWorld View: If your DCT BMW M car is making big torque, or seeing hard track time, you're going to "smoke" your stock DCT clutch and have shifting issues eventually. Sometimes immediately after adding torque or hitting the track. This kit increases the headroom for added power, as well as the on-track lifespan. This is not to say this clutch upgrade won't wear out - as ALL clutch friction discs will eventually wear once pushed hard enough, long enough. But this setup lets you track your car at 10/10ths beyond what the stock DCT setup was intended to do. And still "work" for street style driving and within the DCT computer's shifting expectations. This is not a "full race" setup, and if you are looking for that, we also carry the Spec-R with added (optional) upgraded DCT Basket as the next setup beyond this package. For most modified DCT cars, this package is likely what you want. Important note: these should only be used with the Manual shift modes in DCT. The Auto modes do not generate enough shift pressure for proper engagement and will slip too much.
