This is a Genuine BMW Transfer Case Actuator, a motorized servo that engages and disengages the xDrive's AWD transfer case on all "F-Chassis" all-wheel-drive (AWD) models from 2011 to 2018. This includes F22 2-series, F30 3-series, F32 4-series, F10 5-series, F13 6-series, F02 7-series, F25 X3, F26 X4, F15 X5, and F16 X6. See the below for full list of BMW xDrive applications.

This part bolts to the transfer case and contains an electric motor that engages and disengages the xDrive system. When it fails, it can cause a drivetrain malfunction condition (warning light and codes) and cause your xDrive AWD system to not engage / disengage properly. 

This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 27608643153 (27-60-8-643-153) and is described as "Longitudinal Torque Module", which is just another fancier way of saying transfer case actuator.
