The transfer case redirects power from the back to the transmission to the front of the car for AWD operation. The transfer case has been serviceable with BMW DTF or high-quality GL-4 fluid but lack of maintenance will wear out the internal clutches and require a rebuild or complete replacement.
This is a NEW factory replacement transfer case, however, a core charge still applies (BMW needs the cores).
