This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 24117560575 (24 11 7 560 575) and is described as the magnet located in the automatic transmission oil pan for E46, E39, E83, E53, Z3, E85 with the 5-speed A5S360R or A5S390R automatic transmission.

Only one magnet is used in these transmissions. Do not use more than one magnet.

This part fits the GM 5-speed automatic transmission - A5S360R and A5S390R. It does not fit models with the ZF 5-speed automatic. The GM transmission has a smooth metal oil pan with 20 screws. You can also confirm visually by the tag on the side of the transmission. We have identified production date splits that may help to guide you:

E46 323i up to 3/2000 production
E46 325i/330i from 3/2003 production
E39 525i/530i up to 3/2001 production
