The automatic transmission filter should be changed during any fluid change. Don't wait for the transmission to show signs of wear, internal damage, or fault codes. Proactively replace the fluid and filter as part of your regular maintenance plan.

Automatic transmission fluid and filter servicing on modern BMWs is a complex procedure that takes skill and special tools and knowledge. It is not recommended for the casual DIY mechanic. For anyone not accustomed to transmission service, this job should be left for the experienced professional.

*This part fits the ZF 5-speed automatic transmission - 5HP19 or A5S325Z. It does not fit models with the GM 5-speed automatic. The ZF transmission has a segmented metal oil pan with 22 screws. You can also confirm visually by the tag on the side of the transmission.
