Our ZF 5-speed race-prepared transmission was created in our World Challenge race program through a partnership with Diffsonline, and it's now available for public purchase.

Starting life as a stock 5-speed ZF transmission, this race-prepared unit is completely rebuilt to stock specs in order to make shifting smoother and faster. This transmission can be shifted as fast as a sequential box by an experienced driver!

While the transmission internals are out, all non-friction mesh and bearing surfaces are cleaned through REM polishing. This isotropic polishing process leaves gears and bearing surfaces mirror smooth, which reduces friction, which consequently reduces heat and driveline power loss.

Our cars had a 2-3% reduction in driveline losses on a chassis dyno with this transmission alone (this equates to 6-10 Hp on an average M3 Prepared-class engine!) - plus, you spend more time accelerating due to faster shifts.

This unit is stock fitment for E36 328i/M3, E46 328i/330i, E39 528i/530i, Z3 2.8/3.0, and MZ3. Our race transmission can be retrofitted to most race applications including other M50-based engines with the proper gear linkage and driveshaft.

The BimmerWorld View - (A Warning on Self-Centering Shifters): 
There's been a surge in self-centering / spring-loaded style shifter conversions. Our experience building, servicing and racing BMWs has shown using this style shifter design may cause aggressive synchro gear wear and contribute to premature failure. While we appreciate the technical design aspects of these self-centering / spring-loaded adjustable shifters, inspecting the transmission internals leads us to believe they may be harsh on the transmission. If you are replacing a transmission after having used this style shifter, we would advise converting away to a more traditional shifter design (non-sprung / non self-centering) to increase the lifespan of your transmission.
