Rear Wheel Bearings aren't something most people think about until it's time to replace them. They generally work seamlessly... until they don't. If you've noticed a groaning from one or both of your rear wheels, it's likely the bearings. 

This rear wheel bearing fits a variety of BMWs, including E36 M3 (1995-1999), E46 M3 (2001-2006), E46 325xi, 330xi, 330i, 330Ci (2001-2005), E31 8 Series (1991-1997), E38 7 Series (1995-2001), Z3 M Roadster/Coupe (1998-2002), Z4 M Roadster/Coupe (2005-2008), X3 (2004-2010), and Z8 Roadster (2000-2003).

The easiest way to verify if you have a bad or failing wheel bearing is to jack up the rear of the car, and with a hand on top and on the bottom of the wheel, and wiggle the wheel to see if there is any play/movement. If there is, it's best to change the wheel bearings before they become more than just an annoying sound and leave you stranded on the road.
