Main Bearing Shell ID: BMW uses an alpha-numeric code combination to identify which bearings were originally installed in your engine. The upper bearing code is located on the passenger-side of the engine block in a alphabetic code. A = yellow, B = green, C = red. The lower bearing code is on the first counterweight of the crankshaft in a numeric code. 1 = yellow, 2 = green, 3 = red. Yellow upper and red lower are never used.
