WPC Treated Rod Bearings (1 Rod), Red Code - E82 128i, E9X 325i/328i/330i, E60 525i/530i, X3, X5

This is a pair of upper and lower rod bearings with the WPC surface treatment for N51 and N52 non-turbo engines.

We take a standard BMW bearing shell and give it the WPC treatment, a microscopic shot-peening of the bearing -

• Removes high spots and imperfections
• Improves fatigue resistance
• Increase the surface's oil retention abilities for more lubrication
• Safer than new coatings and will not decrease clearances
• Preserves the bearing's metallurgy, helping to diagnose bearing wear in used oil analysis.

Rod bearings are a typical wear item and must be replaced if significant wear is showing. Although these engines do not rev very high, more mileage and extended oil change intervals will eat into bearing life. On our Project 335i we decided to replace the bearings before adding serious power and were surprised to find significant wear at 82,000 miles. Track your bearing wear with regular used oil analysis and plan on rod bearing replacement some time in your engine's future.

Engine manufacturers, including BMW, color-code their bearing parts to match crankshaft and connecting rod sizes. This pair of bearings includes 2 Red coded bearings. This combination is known as the "R Classification". BMW also used a B Classification for Blue bearings. You must check the front face of the first crankshaft counterweight to determine which bearings are in your engine. New bearings must match the originals being removed!

Bearings are also sold by size. These are the standard 56.0mm inside diameter size.

Note: connecting rod bolts cannot be re-used. They are stretch-to-yield and must be replaced.

This item is 1 upper and 1 lower bearing, enough for one connecting rod.
