A locked up starter is a common cause of no-start conditions in E30, E36, E46, E34, E39, E60, E83, Z3, and E85 Z4 models with M42, M44, M50, M52 M52TU, M54, M56, S50US, S52 engines. If you have plenty of battery power but the starter doesn't click or turn it likely needs to be replaced. There may be other factors too so make sure you check the rest of the car for potential causes. Even if you manage to get the starter to spin, it's on its last legs and should be replaced ASAP.
