This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 11211719984 (11-21-1-719-984) and is described as the lower sprocket for the Oil and Timing Chain on M50, M52, M52TU, M54, S50, and S52 6-cylinder engines. This timing chain gear is mounted on the front of the crankshaft and spins the chains for the engine timing as well as the oil pump. Replace the sprocket if the teeth are sharp or have significant polishing. Wear on the teeth could cause the chain to jump teeth, slack, or even fall off completely.
