This line distributes oil from the high pressure line to each VANOS unit on each cylinder bank. It has a lot fittings where hose and metal line meet. These fittings are compression crimp-style swage ("swedge") fittings that are very common in the automotive world. These swage fittings are a common area for leaks. It's easier to replace the entire line than to try and repair the line. A failure here could result in low pressure in the VANOS system. Without pressure, the VANOS system cannot function and major engine damage can result.
