This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 11367841072 (11 36 7 841 072) and is described as a new Genuine BMW solenoid for the VANOS system on E60 M5 and E63 M6 S85 V10 engines. These are sold per solenoid and the engine takes 4. BMW also calls for new mounting screws for each solenoid (BMW part #11367839846)

The variable valve timing (VANOS) is driven by four of these solenoids. There's a solenoid for each cam and if they fail, the VANOS will cease to function or be slow to respond to commands from the ECU. There are very few warning signs of a VANOS failure but if you notice a loss of torque at certain RPM or worse fuel economy, these might be indications of a VANOS issue (among other causes). An experienced shop will have the computer and tools to test the VANOS system. There will usually be an associated fault code and check engine light for VANOS control or operation, and in extreme cases there will be reduced power and limp mode. The VANOS system on the S85 is so complex that an issue could have 3-4 other causes. It's critical to methodically diagnose these issues before throwing parts at the problem.
