Belt Tensioner - OEM - F22 F30 F32 F10 X1 X3 X4 Z4 with N20 4 cylinder
OEM mechanical tensioner assembly for N20. Replaces BMW part #11287594969.
This is the mechanical belt tensioner used on most 2012-2016 N20/N26 vehicles - F22 228i, F30/F31/F34 320i/328i, F32/F33/F34/F36 428i, F10 528i, X1 28i, X3 28i, X4 28i, and Z4 sDrive28i. The tensioner keeps the main accessory belt at the proper tension for driving the accessories - alternator, power steering pump, and A/C compressor. A failing tensioner will allow the belt to loosen or slip resulting in diminished performance, especially from the alternator. In extreme cases the belt can slip off the pulleys and potentially lead to a catastrophic engine failure (rare but documented). As a preventative maintenance plan, we recommend replacing the tensioner at every belt change, or 40-60,000 miles. The extent of damage from a failed belt is worth the extra cost every few years.
This tensioner includes the roller pulley. Mounting bolts are sold separately but can be re-used from the original tensioner.
This tensioner is manufactured by INA, an original supplier to BMW for belt tensioners and other engine components. Since it is an OEM part, it conforms to the original design that BMW specified for the N20/N26 engine. It comes with a two year warranty.
This part is for the 4-cylinder turbo N20 models - not for the 6-cylinder N52 models.
