This Inspection I oil change package for the M42 four-cylinder cars includes high performance Red Line 5W30 Euro-Series synthetic oil and an OEM Mahle oil filter kit.

Only for cars with an aluminum oil filter housing cover/cap.

This kit includes everything you need for an oil change on the E36 318i/318is Coupe/Sedan (1992, 1993, 1994, 1995), E36 318i Convertible (1994-1995), and E36 318ti (1994-1995).

Kit Contents:
  • 6 quarts of Red Line 5W30 synthetic motor oil (the capacity is approximately 5.3 quarts)
  • 1 OEM Mahle oil filter kit with housing seals and drain plug washer.
Red Line oil outperforms the factory oil when it comes to strength under stress. Factory-type oils are engineered for efficiency and include additives to enhance lubrication, reduce emissions, and improve fuel economy. But in the high performance turbo world we live in, these oils break down faster, leaving your engine unprotected. Red Line oil has higher levels of ZDDP (zinc and phosphorous) that do a better job of lubricating, protecting, and sealing in the hotter environments our turbo engines are capable of making while still exceeding BMW LL-01 standards. Red Line oil includes the appropriate levels of anti-wear additives and low ash content to ensure compatibility with factory emissions equipment. With BMW replacing its 5W30 oils with 0W20 and 0W30, the need for a high performance motor oil is greater than ever.

The Mahle OEM oil filter kit includes the filter and a drain plug crush seal. We insist on OEM or Original BMW filters for our customers. Mahle is an OE supplier to BMW for this and many other filters and components found in your BMW. As an original supplier, Mahle's filter products meet or exceed the requirements from BMW. They are engineered for the correct fit and filtration needs of the M42 4-cylinder engines.

If you proactively maintain your car, and take interest in its care and performance, there are several other things to check during a routine oil change (aka Inspection I service):
  • top off and inspect other fluids: power steering, other hydraulic fluids, coolant, brake fluid (replace annually)
  • empty oil catch can (if added)
  • clean or replace engine air filter (replace annually)
  • clean or replace cabin air filter (replace annually)
  • set all tire pressures, including your spare (if equipped)
  • inspect brake pads and rotors
  • inspect serpentine belts for cracking
  • inspect all hoses, including power steering, for leaks or poor fitment
  • inspect intake boots for cracks or leaks
  • Take this opportunity to inspect the general condition of the engine bay and chassis. Staying ahead of problems, even minor ones, will help avoid major issues in the future. As well as help you get the most enjoyment from BMW ownership.
