A fresh 3-series / 1-series / X1 cabin air filter (also known as a microfilter or HEPA filter) will allow you to breathe easier, and healthier, by effectively filtering out impurities through your HVAC system. A yearly replacement of your microfilter will ensure dust, pollen, soot, and pollution stay out of your BMW's interior. This cabin air filter is the first to market with an advanced activated carbon material to adsorb a particularly high amount of NOx. The filter permanently and sustainably reduces NOx in the environment and directly in the vehicle cabin. Your microfilter should be replaced once a year or every 15,000 miles.
This filter's job is to filter the RECIRCULATED air in the cabin. A subtle distinction from the fresh air filter, as this filter takes the air from the cabin and filters it when the recirc feature is enabled.
The X3/X4 with automatic climate control also features a separate set of filters for the recirculated air system. This set includes both filter panels for the recirculated air system on E82 1-series, E9X 3-series, and E84 X1.
Regular or Activated Carbon filter? Regular filters are made of paper or textiles that are then electrically charged. The charged filter creates a static surface for foreign particles to cling to. Carbon filters - also known as charcoal filters - also use a textile material but with extra layers of chemically-treated carbon material (literally charcoal or charred wood). The carbon does a better job of trapping and containing foreign particles which makes it a better choice for heavily polluted areas and especially in stop/go traffic. It also does a better job of filtering odors than a standard paper filter. Because of the more complex manufacturing process, activated charcoal filters tend to be more expensive. We offer both paper and activated carbon filters for your BMW whenever available.
