Since the quality of the intake air has a direct affect on performance and efficiency it just makes sense to have a clean air filter. Clogged and dirty filters will prevent good airflow to the engine and the engine computer has no choice but to compensate. To help keep your engine running at its optimum best, always replace or clean your air filter once a year.

This is the OEM air filter for the M54 engine and the stock air box in the E46, X3, and Z4 models, which replaces BMW part number 13721744869 (13 72 1 744 869) and includes a charcoal filter layer just like the original design. Charcoal does an excellent job of scrubbing the air of contaminants and pollutants and was part of BMW's original efforts for cleaner emissions. A non-charcoal filter is also available (see Related Items below).
