This is a Bosch spark plug used for all N51 and N52 engines. While NGK is the OEM for this application, Bosch is true premium alternative at a more attractive price. This part number has been approved by Bosch for all 2006-2013 model years. This spark plug uses platinum tipped electrodes for longer service life. Platinum lasts longer than copper-tipped plugs and fits better in BMW's 100,000 mile extended service plans.

Just like ignition coils, spark plugs are key to the performance and efficiency of your BMW engine. A bad plug(s) will harm performance and fuel mileage and affect drivability and engine smoothness. Unburnt fuel in the exhaust will shorten the lifespan of oxygen sensors and catalytic converters. Spark plugs wear out over a long time, making losses in performance less obvious. While BMW may recommend "lifetime" 100,000 mile replacement intervals, we generally recommend 50-60,000 mile replacements.

Copper vs Platinum. Platinum plugs were introduced in the late 1990s to fit with BMW's extended service plans. They last longer than copper tipped plugs but will give up some performance, especially on highly tuned engines or for competition use. Copper plugs will need to be changed more often but will deliver better performance. If extracting every available horsepower matters more than longevity, choose a copper plug. For a daily driver with less emphasis on performance, the "High Power" platinum plugs are not a bad choice.
