CSF Front Mount Intercooler - F22, F30, F32, F87
Stepped design has much greater surface area than any other drop-in FMIC
The purpose of a Front Mount Intercooler (FMIC) upgrade on the F22 228i/M235i, F30 320i/328i/335i, F32 428i/435i, and F87 M2 is to do a better job of cooling the intake air to make more power. This cooler is so efficient at cooling the intake air that CSF saw repeated 15-20hp gains on a stock 335i with no other changes. Any plans for more boost must include upgrades to the rest of the system and the FMIC is the first place to start.
It's easy to make more boost and more power in a turbocharged engine like the N20 and N55 - until other components show their weaknesses. The stock BMW intercooler on the F22 228i/M235i, F30 320i/328i/335i, F32 428i/435i, and F87 M2 is decent enough for maintaining intake air temps on a stock engine (though there's still room for improvement). But adding more boost will raise intake air temps and lead to fuel and timing adjustments that could actually reduce power levels! If your N20 and N55 turbo upgrades are not living up to expectations it could be the rest of your system letting your down.
The CSF Intercooler for the N20 and N55 engines in the F22 228i/M235i, F30 320i/328i/335i, F32 428i/435i, and F87 M2 is two intercoolers merged into one larger unit. The standard oversized intercooler is augmented by a taller intercooler in front. This maximizes the available surface area in the front of the F22, F30, F32, and F87 front bumper but does not require any modifications for installation. It uses all of the factory connections and install points for a plug and play fitment. 3D scanning and rapid prototyping allowed CSF to take advantage of the available exposure. A bar and plate design has excellent cooling capability which makes this ideal for street cars. CSF includes a lifetime warranty from defects.
