These cams are the same specs as the stock US M3 to be used to upgrade the M50/M52 engines in the E36 325i/328i, E34 525i, E39 528i, and Z3 2.8. The stock M3 cams are hard to find used (or have a lot of miles) and new cams from BMW cost as much as the car itself. These cams are made in Germany by Schrick, a close partner with BMW, and match the performance of the M3 cam upgrade perfectly. They could even be used as replacement cams for an M3!
Camshaft tuning is all about optimizing air/fuel flow for your specific needs. These M3-spec cams will have more power in the mid and high RPM range with no loss of torque in the bottom end. The intake cam has 10.2mm of valve lift and the exhaust has 9.5mm lift, and each has more duration so the valves open deeper and longer to expedite flow. With proper air intake and tuning upgrades these engines easily make over 240hp. No additional hardware is required although new spring retainers and keepers will be a good idea on high mileage engines. All valve lift figures are shown without deduction of valve lash, i.e. the actual valve lift is the stated valve lift minus the valve lash. Hydraulic lifters have no lash so the valve lift is the actual valve lift.
