Stage 1 turbos are a rebuild of the original turbos with a few enhancements to improve efficiency, throttle response, and engine behavior. Stage 1 uses a new stock turbine wheel but changes the compressor (intake) side to a custom VTT billet wheel. The compressor wheel and housing are all custom cast to Vargas specs. The new compressor and turbine bolt onto the stock manifold for an easy install (new seals recommended) and factory appearance. Keeping the stock turbine gives near-stock throttle response and lag response and works better under higher boost levels. The Stage 1 works great as a OEM replacement that does not have to work as hard if you choose custom tuning to make power (producing less heat).
These turbos can bolt in as a direct OEM replacement with no changes to any other factory systems or controls. Should you choose to increase boost and performance through other means (custom tuning) these turbos are a great complement to your tuning plans. Using a mild upgrade such as Stage 1 can handle increased boost with less effort and heat. Higher boost increases heat which spreads throughout the rest of the engine and accessories, further straining the oil and cooling systems (which are really undersized to begin with). The new billet compressor has the capability of handling higher boost levels without introducing a lot more heat.
A $1,000 core charge is not included in the price shown and will be added to the order. You can avoid the core charge altogether by sending your original turbos in for the rebuild. A core charge applies to this purchase. The supply of original parts for rebuilding keeps the final purchase price low. The core must match the part that was supplied in terms of fitment, type, application, accessories, and hardware. Damaged or modified cores will not receive a refund. A core charge can only be refunded once the core has been inspected and approved.

Horsepower ratings are used as a reference for each tuning stage. Turbos make up just a portion of your horsepower goals. Proper tuning and additional hardware is required to take full advantage of these turbos.
