This is an OEM Bosch Knock Sensor / Ping Sensor for the M60 V8 engine used in the V8 model 5 series, 7 series, and 8 series up through the 1995 model year. This includes the 530i, 540i, 740i, 740iL, and 840Ci.

Sold Individually. There are 4 of these used per Car/Engine, so be sure to order enough to complete your repair job.

Only For Cars 1995 and Earlier. This sensor is only for the first generation / early M60 engine, which used the OBD1 electronics system.

The job of this sensor is to listen for engine knock or ping, and relay that data to the engine control unit (ECU) for operating adjustments and corrections. If your knock sensors are bad, it can lead to long-term engine problems, reduced engine life, and premature failure. Having good working knock sensors are also good insurance against old or low-grade gasoline, as the ECU can adjust to help protect and adapt the engine timing to account for lower octane levels or detonation. Replacing your knock sensors is a good preventative care on the M60 V8 engine.
