This sensor serves two functions: oil level and oil quality. If you believe oil level warning messages on your iDrive are wrong the culprit could be a bad sensor. It's not uncommon for the sensor to fail and send erroneous data to the on-board computer. Additionally, the sensor evaluates engine oil quality to determine oil change intervals.
This part number replaces, or is compatible with, BMW part numbers 12 61 5 A74 0A3, 12615A14C01, 12618638758.
