This main stud kit is specifically for the S54 3.2 liter engine, as used in E46 M3, Z3 M and Z4 M variants. The S54 engine was used in model years 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2008, and these robust main studs are a must if you are building or re-building a performance and longevity-minded S54.
The ARP main stud kit comes complete with everything from the hardened parallel-ground washers to the aerospace-quality nuts you come to expect from ARP. Some applications have provisions for mounting windage trays and have specially designed standoff studs with serrated lock nuts to position the windage tray and lock it securely in place.
The studs themselves are created from 8740 chrome moly steel, then are heat-treated in-house to 190,000 psi tensile strength, and finally precision J-form threads are rolled after heat-treatment to create a fastener that has threads 1000% stronger than others.
