This part is listed by BMW as BMW part number 11428637820 (11 42 8 637 820) and is described as the gasket for the heat exchanger or oil cooler thermostat unit found in front of the oil filter housing on N20, N26, N54, N55, and S55 engines.

Fix that oil leak! This pesky gasket sees a good deal of heat and with mileage, age and time will eventually start causing an oil leak. If you're replacing an oil filter housing gasket, you should also do this at the same time (if your BMW has either the heat exchanger unit or oil cooler lines, as pictured.) Fortunately this area of the car is pretty easily accessed and the job is fairly straight forward for your average DIY BMW owner.
