Rear Main Crankshaft Seal, BMW - E30, E36, E46, E60, X5, Z3, Z4

This is the OE BMW replacement rear main seal, which is often the source for oil leaks on S14, M20, M30, M50/M52/S52, M52TU/M54, and S54 engines. This seal is made from PTFE/Teflon, which has better chemical resistance and less friction than traditional rubber seals.

Spring or No Spring? This latest BMW part does not use a spring on the inside seal. There are pros and cons of having the spring here. It does a better job of sealing against the crankshaft. But the spring often falls off and can cause further damage to the seal. We prefer the non-spring type for high-revving track and race engines.

Install this seal dry, no oil or grease. Use the included plastic cover as a guide when pressing over the crankshaft.
